What the New Charter Means for You:
Term Limits - An End to Politics As Usual
The new charter sets term limits of twelve years for members of City Council and the Mayor. This means no more career politicians holding office forever and holding back our city. We have too many challenges, and too many opportunities, to continue doing business as usual.
A Real Executive Branch - Leadership that is Accountable
Currently, city government is managed by an appointed bureaucrat who has no direct accountability to the citizens. Under the new Charter, the elected Mayor will serve as the leader of our City government, which means YOU will have a stronger voice in the direction of our city.
Recall, Initiative, and Expanded Citizens’ Rights
Sometimes citizens just have to take matters into their own hands. Under our present charter, voters have very limited options for doing this. With the new charter, voters will be able to overturn bad decisions by City Council, recall elected officials who behave inappropriately, and even pass our own laws through a citizens’ initiative process.
Preserving Neighborhoods and Communities
To protect the diverse interests Pensacola’s wonderful neighborhoods and communities, the new Charter retains the same City Council districts and structure, with seven members elected from districts and two members elected at-large. This ensures that all of Pensacola’s citizens have a voice as we work to move our City forward.
If you Believe in a Better Pensacola, Vote YES on the New Charter!
